JULY 25-30: TC FILM FEST

If you’re in or around Traverse City, check out the
lineup for this year’s annual Traverse City Film
Festival. Founded by Michael Moore, and with a
board including Larry Charles and Michigan-native
Jeff Daniels, the festival is committed to showing
“just great movies,” including classics shown on the
waterfront on a giant inflatable screen. Among the
screenings of 200-plus films, events, music, food
and parties will be Fanny’s Journey, the story of a
13-year-old French girl hiding from the Nazis in an Italian foster home for Jewish children before being
turned out on her own to cross the Swiss border; The Young Karl Marx, a fascinating biopic of the
German philosopher (whose Jewish lawyer father, born Hirschel Marx, decided to become a Protestant
when his son was born to escape anti-Semitism); and Detroit, director Kathryn Bigelow’s telling of the
