75th Anniversary

June 13, 2017

Dear Friends:

I would like to sincerely congratulate the Detroit Jewish News as it celebrates its
75 th anniversary of service to the Jewish and general community.

From the time of its first publishing on March 27, 1942, founded and established
right in the middle of Downtown Detroit’s Penobscot Building, the Jewish news
offered light and hope at a time of despair for America, its allies and especially
a traumatized Jewish community.

In honor of the special commemorative edition to be published on July 27, 2017, I am pleased to
congratulate the Detroit Jewish News on its 75 th Anniversary and all of their accomplishments and
strides in the community. It is my pleasure to thank the founder, Philip Slomovitz, for providing the
Jewish community with an independent publication of journalistic integrity, broad appeal and national
acclaim. I am also pleased to thank the current President Arthur Horwitz for continuing to build upon
the Slomovitz legacy and continuing to grow the Jewish News into one of the largest community
weeklies.

On behalf of the citizens of Detroit, again, I would like to congratulate the Detroit Jewish News
Foundation. I applaud the efforts of the founder, Philip Slomovits and the current President, Arthur
Horwitz for continuing to grow the Jewish News Foundation into its largest group of readers and
subscribers.

Congratulations on the 75 th anniversary of the Detroit Jewish News.

Sincerely,

Mike Duggan,
Mayor
