ertha Stearn of West
Bloomfield turned 101 years
old on July 4. She is a moth-
er of two, grandmother of four and
great-grandmother of four. She
worked for her parents in Eastern
Market and later worked in sales
at various places, including Sam’s
Cut Rate Shoes. She is a regular
participant in discussion groups,
art and baking classes, concert
trips and word games. Her next
challenge will be as a contestant
in the Fleischman Residence
Spelling Bee. •

oyce Chudler Adelman and Erwin Adelman of West Bloomfield cel-
ebrated their 60th anniversary on July 7 at a special dinner that brought
together their three daughters, sons-in–law and grandchildren from
near and far. Love, laughter and good health were shared with the anniver-
sary couple from Cindy Adelman Frank and Joel Frank, Lisa Adelman and
Andy Epstein, Shari Adelman Barnett and Neal Barnett, Jeremy, Jared and
David Frank, Zachary, Sasha and Ari Barnett. •

Rabbi Francine Roston received the Human Rights Rabbi
of the Year Award from T’ruah the Rabbinic Call for Human
Rights. Charlene Green, her mother, attended. Roston was
from Farmington Hills before taking a pulpit in New Jersey.
She has since moved to Whitefish, Mont., where she has
become a leader of the Jewish community and supports
many humanitarian groups.

Dr. Joel Felsenfeld, assistant professor at LECOM School
of Dental Medicine in Bradenton, Fla., has been granted
Fellowship in the American College of Dentists. He will be
inducted at the annual meeting in Atlanta, Ga., in October.
In addition, his research study, “Potassium Iodide, the
Solution to Silver Diamine Flouride Discoloration,” was
accepted for publication in the scientific journal Advances
in Dentistry and Oral Health.

Sklar

Robert Sklar, contributing editor of the Jewish News, has
been awarded a Louis Rapoport Award for Excellence in
Commentary from the American Jewish Press Association
in the AJPA Simon Rockover Awards Competition for
Excellence in Jewish Journalism for work published in 2016.
The second-place recognition was for these submissions:
“Israel Can’t Let Israeli Arab Inequality Linger,” “Targeted
French Theater Long On Jewish Ties” and “Hitler Abettors
Must Feel Justice.”
