BETTY SONIA
ROSS BARSKY, 94,
of Oak Park and
Forestville, Calif.,
passed away June
18, 2017.
She was born
May
22, 1923, in
Barsky
Detroit. The fam-
ily had emigrated
from Lithuania to Moncton, New
Brunswick, Canada, around 1905.
Betty was partly deaf as a result of
a childhood illness. She graduated
from Cooley High and later worked
at the Ross Supermarket. She also
had employment as a bookkeeper for
Barsky Insurance.
Mrs. Barsky was a member of
Hadassah, B’nai B’rith, where she was
manager of the chapter newsletter,
and she received the Woman of the
Year Award in 1987.
Her many interests included mah
jong, dancing and traveling with her
husband, Philip. She had many friends
and a happy life. She was truly kind
and sweet and described by her chil-
dren as the “best mom ever.”
Mrs. Barsky is survived by her
brother, Harry “Bill;” children,
Alan Joel, David Larry and Howard
Michael; grandchildren, Aviva, Natalie,
Patrick; great-grandchildren, Alex,
Zachary, Chloe and Naomi, all of
Northern California.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, Sarah and Charles; and by
her husband of 45 years, Philip.
Services were held in Mill Valley,
Calif.

BERNARD
COHEN, 98, of
West Bloomfield,
died June 23, 2017.
He is survived by
his beloved wife,
Sylvia Cohen; sons
and daughter-in-
Cohen
law, Donald Cohen
and Deborah
Tanzler-Cohen,
Robert Cohen and
Richard Cohen; many loving nieces,
nephews, other family members and
friends.
Mr. Cohen was the brother of
the late Rae Cohen, the late Albert
Cohen, the late Max Cohen and the
late Sam Cohen.
Interment took place at the Adat
Shalom Memorial Park Cemetery in
Livonia. Contributions may be made
to the ACLU or to a charity of one’s
choice. Arrangements by Dorfman
Chapel.
