and became a B-29 pilot, flying 16 mis-
sions in the South Pacific. He married his
cherished wife, Roslyn, during the war,
and many wartime memories lived on in
their lives.
After the war, Howard began a lifelong
career in the food service industry, design-
ing, installing and supplying commercial
kitchens. At 65, he formed his own con-
sulting company, H and R Inc. He enjoyed
his work and was well respected by his
customers who became lifelong friends.
Howard and Roslyn loved attending art
museums, movies and plays. They enjoyed
traveling to many countries, including
Israel and Stratford, Ontario. Howard was
loved and admired by all who knew him.
Mr. Miller was the beloved husband of
Roslyn for 72 years; the cherished father
of Arleen and Don Rochlen, and Susan
and Marty Rosenzveig; proud and lov-
ing papa to his grandchildren, Elizabeth
and Jonathan Berger, David and Lauryn
Rochlen, and Rena and Yoni Swartz;
and great-grandchildren, Lillian and Eve
Berger, and Isaac and Hannah Rochlen.
Interment took place at Adat Shalom
Memorial Park. Arrangements by Ira
Kaufman Chapel.

SHELDON W. ROGERS,
81, of Novi, died June 8,
2017.
He is survived by his

family members and friends.
Mr. Rogers was the brother of the late
Marilyn (the late Ernest) Laufer.

Gardens of Beth El Memorial Park

LANDRA ROSENTHAL (nee Eppstein),
75, died in San Rafael, Calif., on June 1,
2017, after a long illness.
Landra was born in Detroit, graduated
from Mumford High School and then
Wayne University with a major in art

history. She lived in Lafayette Park and
worked at the Detroit Institute of Arts as
an assistant curator.
In 1969, she married David Rosenthal
and moved to Berkeley, Calif., where she
opened a successful art gallery. She later
went to Golden Gate University Law
School and received a doctor of laws. She
divorced in 1978 and went on to practice
law as an assistant attorney general in the
office of the California Attorney General.
Subsequently, she was employed as coun-
sel in the office of the California State
Public Defender, working on appeals of
criminal convictions.
Mrs. Rosenthal is survived by her son,
Joshua; daughter-in-law, Cristiane; grand-
daughter, Raquel; brother and sister-
in-law, Richard and Joanne Eppstein of
Ontario, Canada.
Services were held at Hebrew Memorial
Chapel with subsequent burial at Clover
Hill Park Cemetery. Contributions may
