T

he Southfield Area Chamber
of Commerce is a full-service
Chamber representing the
cities of Southfield and Lathrup
Village. By consolidating resources
from several hundred businesses, the
Chamber works collectively to support
our members as we build a healthy
economy and improve the quality
of life in the greater Southfield
community.
The Chamber was established
in 1953 as the Southfield Business
Association and worked diligently to
share useful information and mitigate
issues within its membership. The
Association also promoted strong
bonds with local government,
working with what was then known
as Southfield Township. In 1968, the
Association became the Southfield
Chamber of Commerce and began
focusing on advancing the economic,
professional, cultural and civic welfare
of the city of Southfield.
With an eye on the future and
the needs of its members, in 2012
the Chamber reinvented itself with
a new brand and a new focus on
creating connections. Our members,
partners and local officials tell us
that this singular focus on providing
connections is invaluable in helping
our members succeed and promoting
a stronger community.
Chambers in general, are the 411
of any community. They know who is

who and have access to the resources
a business may need to accomplish
its goals. Bob Thomas with Michigan
Association of Chamber Professionals
said it best: “The beauty of chambers
of commerce is that they truly
embody the spirit of entrepreneurship,
ingenuity and innovation of their
communities and the businesses they
represent.”
So what exactly do we mean by
creating connections? It could be
anything from sharing a database
of volunteer opportunities with a
corporation looking for volunteer
opportunities or connecting a member
seeking publicity to a public relations
firm with a successful track record.
Of course, we also have plenty of
events that allow for networking and
connecting informally. Quarterly we
host educational seminars that feature
experts discussing the latest business
trends and concerns of the day.
These are just a few examples how
our Chamber helps our members
make connections. For more
information, please give us a call at
(248) 557-661 or explore our website,
www.SouthfieldChamber.com, to see
all the services and resources
the Chamber provides.
