Scholarships for kids were the big winners at the Jewish Community Center
of Metropolitan Detroit’s annual golf outing in South Florida.
About $75,000, a near record, was generated from registration fees,
donations and a silent auction in conjunction with the 11th annual JCC
Michigan-Florida Reunion Dinner, Golf Classic and Games event held March
14 at Indian Spring Country Club in Boynton Beach. Proceeds benefit
scholarships for the Metro Detroit JCC’s day camps, Sarah & Irving Pitt
Child Development Center and inclusion programs for youth with special
needs. Nearly half of all campers draw assistance.
Mort Plotnick, reunion organizer and JCC ambassador, said: “This eve-
ning is all about raising money for kids. When you give, you really enable
lots of families to do things they would not normally be able to do. The JCC
annually awards more than $325,000 in youth scholarships.”
The dinner honored Eunice and Milton Ring for their philanthropy on
behalf of the JCC, the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, Karmanos
Cancer Institute in Detroit and other charitable causes.
The Franklin couple felt privileged to be honored because, as Milton put
it to the 161 dinner guests, “this wonderful cause helps children and families
in need, especially the ones who struggle to make ends meet.” •
