ANNIVERSARY
passover
continued from page 28
“It’s special to know that four generations
have participated in this tradition that
fills our holiday with meaning … ”
who welcome at least 20 participants
each year.
JARC provides a kosher Passover
meal prepared by Quality Kosher
Catering in Southfield, and the home’s
staff and women who live there pre-
pare everything else that is needed.
“As soon as the guests walk in the
door, they are always greeted with
many hugs and smiles,” Sonya said.
Among them is Joni S., who lives
at the Pitt home and attends the
annual seder. “I love hearing the story
of Passover, the gathering of friends
I haven’t seen in a while and the
warmth that Lindsey and her family
brings,” she said.
Sonya said, “It is essential the Foxes
and Wagners are here to lead the
seder. The people we serve as well
as the Pitt staff will always welcome
them and look forward to seeing them
because we have built a bond, and
they can engage and interact with
them in an uplifting way. We are grate-
ful they have given us their time, devo-
tion and commitment.”

YEAR-ROUND CONNECTION
The extended Fox family’s relationship
with JARC and the ladies at Pitt goes
far beyond the meaningful seder.
“We are all involved in ‘everything
JARC,’ from fundraisers and Shabbat
barbecues to volunteering at events
and donating chocolate to staff recog-
nition lunches,” Lindsey said.
“JARC will always hold a special
place in my heart. It has and will
always be a big part of my life. I will
never stop advocating for people with
disabilities.
“For many years, my grandma [Irene
Fox] enjoyed dropping off Chanukah
gelt at the Pitt home, and we even
had a Chanukah party with the ladies
where we brought in pizza, dreidels
and gelt,” Lindsey said. “I have gone
over and cooked breakfast, teach-
ing everyone how to make egg-white
omelettes.”
Lindsey and Jodi’s sister, Hallie Jaffe,
and her husband, Ryan, who live in
West Bloomfield, co-hosted a family
barbecue at the Pitt home a few years
ago, regularly attend JARC events and,
along with their daughters, Sloane,
9, and Brooke, 6, have visited the Pitt
home on several occasions.
They spend the first night’s seder
with Ryan’s family, but join with the
Foxes for the second night at a family
and friends’ seder at Leah and Jeff ’s
home. Lindsey, her husband and son
go straight from the JARC seder to a
second first-night seder at her hus-
bands’ parents’ home in Ann Arbor.
TREASURED FRIENDSHIPS
“We are grateful for the Fox family’s
loving partnership with JARC,” said
Rena Friedberg, JARC’s chief philan-
thropy officer, who will be a volunteer
seder leader at the Shirley T. Medow
Home in Huntington Woods for the
first time this year.
“The beautiful relationship that has
been formed with the Fox family and
the ladies and staff of the Pitt home
is a perfect example of how getting
involved with JARC can impact every-
one’s life.”
Sonya, too, is in awe of the relation-
ship. “It gives me great joy that the
ladies have built a strong community
and family connection for the past
seven years,” she said.
Reflecting, Lindsey said, “It is so
special to know that four generations
of my family have all participated in
this tradition that fills our holiday
with meaning and love.”
For Leah, the impact of the bond
forming between the women and her
grandson is paramount.
“Seeing the smiles of the people in
the home when Nathan walks in, it’s
priceless. I think it is important for
Nathan to grow up knowing that it
is OK to be different. We are all dif-
ferent. It’s important for him to ask
questions, learn about JARC and get to
know the people that JARC serves.
“Nathan will learn the importance
of inclusion, to be respectful of all
people and hopefully be an advocate
for people with disabilities. We love
knowing Nathan will spend every year
celebrating Passover with his JARC
family,” she said.
Jodi’s association with the agency
has affected Paul as well, not only at
the Pitt seder, but with program and
event involvement that included the
couple hosting a recent JARC bingo
night.
Jodi, who sits on the JARC board
as well as on the Young Adult
Committee, said, “I feel so lucky I
married someone who loves JARC as
much as I do. He has embraced the
people JARC serves like family.” •
