Dr. Shell, born in Detroit in 1942, was a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School. From 1982 to 1995, Dr. Shell was a member of the cardiology staff at Cedars- Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif. While there, he led the team that discov- ered the cardio specific enzyme CK-MB. Dr. Shell was happiest when gardening in his backyard, tending to his roses, being a photographer, gourmet cooking, spend- ing time with his dogs and engaging in intellectual conversations with those he loved. He is survived by his wife, Lisa; his chil- dren, Jeff, Stephanie, Dana and Daniel; his eight grandchildren; his brother, Richard.
