Our last event, “Sweets for Syria,”
was a bake sale in collaboration
with the Muslim Student Association
and Universities Allied for Essential
Medicines. The proceeds were split and
donated to Ziv Hospital in Israel and
Israel’s Amaliah Field Hospital — both
are treating Syrian refugees. In two
days of tabling, we raised more than
$200.
This was another opportunity to
showcase a positive aspect of Israel to
our campus. Students who stopped had
a positive experience about Israel, even
if they were only there for a minute
or two. We reached more than 100
students and got to engage in dialogue
about what Israel is doing for Syrian
refugees and even got to educate many

about the conflict.
Collaborating with student groups
from different backgrounds shows the
potential for peace on campus. Not
only did we show Jewish and Muslims
students working together, we also got
our fellow students to raise money and
awareness for a crisis occurring across
the world.
“Sweets for Syria” was a great end
to a long and successful year, while also
leaving me excited for my future at this
school as well as how I will leave it. @

Strength.

As a Laker, you’re in with the smallest big university in the country.
We’re large enough to have the impact of a major university, and small
enough to respond nimbly to you. That’s the Laker Effect. And we can’t
wait for you to become part of it.

legislation at her college. At this
moment, I realized the time for
reticence and reserve is behind us.
This is not a battle to fight in the far
future; rather, this battle is going on
today, tomorrow and every day fol-
lowing.
I admit my apprehension of
college life as a pro-Israel advo-
cate. Like other Zionists my age,
I recognize the commitment we
have to make and the sacrifices that
accompany this choice. Yet, after
attending this inspirational confer-
ence, I now understand we are not
alone. There are resources and assis-
tance to help pro-Israel students
at most campuses nationwide. We
are stronger together and when we
unite to form one coherent mission,
we will be unstoppable.
With the rash of recent anti-
Semitic events in cities and cam-

puses worldwide, it is especially
important to stand together and
to call out and condemn all acts of
anti-Semitism.
We can start by exposing the true
agenda of campaigns such as BDS,
which are
“disguised” as “human rights”
groups, but their agenda is anti-Isra-
el and nothing more than the classic
anti-Semitism we have experienced
for centuries. The sooner we recog-
nize BDS for what it is, the better we
can confront it and the sooner we
can form a true, lasting peace in the
Middle East.
I look forward to continuing this
mission of educating about Israel at
my future campus. @
