T

he fourth annual women’s megillah reading sponsored
by Or Chadash is a reinvention of previous women’s
megillah readings in the Detroit area. The gathering
was envisioned by coordinator Michelle Sider as an oppor-
tunity to bring together women from all streams of Judaism
to support one another and learn Megillat Esther. This event
continues to grow and has inspired women of all ages and
their families to learn and embrace Jewish traditions.
The 10 readers this year were Sophia Gawel, Andrea
Wiese-Hason, Shaina Warshay, Deb Apap-Kovsky, Susan
Feber, Lindsey Potoff, Ora Singer, Julie Edgar, Talya
Jacobowitz and Suzie Kresch. They began studying their
parts last December with the assistance of Vera Wexler, this
year’s gabbai, and other tutors and resources. Rabbi Eliezer
Finkelman taught participants a class in Megillat Esther and
was available for insight and assistance. •
