BECKY HURVITZ SPECIAL TO THE JEWISH NEWS

Alan J. Kaufman, chairman and CEO of the H.W.
Kaufman Financial Group and Burns & Wilcox. “We
were excited to be able to offer a match for all new
donations and increases made the night of EPIC.
“It is clear from the enormous success of the
program that the next generation of Jewish Detroit
accepted the challenge. With an even better turnout
than last year, these dedicated EPIC attendees
once again demonstrated the immense generosity,
leadership and commitment of our community’s
young leaders.”

NEXTGen Detroit, the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit’s young adult division, has
raised over $1 million for the Federation’s Annual
Campaign over the last five years at EPIC, but this
was by far their most successful year yet. With
a compelling program that featured the personal
stories of three local young adults who have been
impacted by the work of the Federation and its
partner agencies, EPIC guests raised $270,000, a
42 percent ($80,000) increase over last year. •

Young Jewish Detroit came out in full force on
March 4 for NEXTGen Detroit’s annual premiere
fundraiser, EPIC, brought to the community by Sue
and Alan J. Kaufman and family. More than 525
young adults enjoyed a night of food, drinks, live
entertainment and a stand-up comedy performance
by Curb Your Enthusiasm’s JB Smoove at the
historic Fillmore Detroit.
“In this, our fifth year as presenting sponsor of
EPIC, we wanted to do something special and
increase our support for this important event,” said
