An estimated 1,000 people dropped by Young Israel of Oak Park
Feb. 19 for the first Chesed Expo, a fair celebrating a few dozen social
service organizations that serve the Detroit Jewish community — from the
Jewish Dental Clinic to Detroit Hatzalah to Yad Ezra to Bridal Canopy. The
event was a hit with kids, who munched on cotton candy, sno-cones and
popcorn, and adults, who listened and learned — and ate from Chef Cari’s
food truck. The event benefits Meshi, an internationally renowned school
and rehabilitation center in Israel for children with severe disabilities. •
