Guy Stern Is
Given France’s
Highest Honor

Vincent Floreani, consul general of France in
Chicago, bestowed France’s highest honor
upon Guy Stern, director of the International
institute of the Righteous at the Holocaust
Memorial Center.

On Jan. 27, approximately 335
people attended the Holocaust
Memorial Center’s commemora-
tion of International Holocaust
Remembrance Day. In addi-
tion, Dr. Guy Stern, director of
the International Institute of the
Righteous, was awarded the French
Knight of the Legion of Honor medal
by the French Consul General for his
role in liberating France during World
War II. The award is the highest honor
the country can bestow upon those
who achieved remarkable deeds for
France. The award was created by
Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802. The
event was supported by the David-
Horodoker Organization. •

Win A Day
With A Chef

Bookstock, Michigan’s largest
used book and media sale, invites
amateur chefs across Michigan
to submit their best recipes for a
one-dish, healthy meal. Contest
winners will receive fabulous
prizes and bragging rights in the
first-ever cooking contest to ben-
efit literacy across Metro Detroit.
The grand prize is a day in the
kitchen with the chefs of Grey
Ghost restaurant. The winner
will spend the day refining their
culinary techniques and expand-
ing their gastronomic repertoire
alongside Grey Ghost Chefs John
Vermiglio and Josef Giacomino.
Using the season’s freshest ingre-
dients, the winner will work with
the chefs to prepare an exclusive
six-course menu for four. As eve-
ning falls, the winner will join
three of their friends for dinner
while sipping libation pairings
from the Grey Ghost beverage
director.
But that’s not all. The winner
will prepare the winning dish on
WDIV Local 4’s Live in the D on
Thursday, April 27.
Second prize is a Wolf counter-
top convection oven, and third
prize is a $100 gift certificate to
Beau’s, Mex or Social restaurants.
A panel featuring celebrity
chefs John Vermiglio of Grey
Ghost, Kate Williams of Lady of
the House, Detroit Free Press res-
taurant critic Mark Kurlyandchik
and Detroit News features reporter
and star foodie Melody Baetens
will choose the winners. Local
news stars Tati Amare (WDIV
Local 4) Carolyn Clifford (WXYZ-
TV 7) and Sherry Margolis (FOX
2) will join Bookstock present-
ing sponsor Mike Morse and
Bookstock honorary co-chairs
Rochelle Riley and Neal Rubin to
announce the winners at 5 p.m.,
Wednesday, April 26, at Laurel
Park Place in Livonia.
