WATERS, 65,
passed away Feb.
11, 2017, at St.
Joseph’s Hospital
in Stockton, Calif.
Waters
A resident of
California since
1993, Karen was
born on June 3,
1951, in Detroit to Muriel (Forman)
and Phillip Silverstein. She was
involved in the medical field her
entire working life.
Mrs. Waters is survived by
her three children, Julie Waters
of Stockton, Jackie Waters of
Modesto, Calif., and Jordan Waters
of Turlock, Calif.; her partner, Art
Thistle; and former husband, Gary
Waters.
She was preceded in death by
her parents and her brother, Avery
Silverstein.
A celebration of her life was held
on Feb. 18 at the home of Gary and
Kat Waters in Manteca, Calif.

EDITH
(WARSHAWSKY)
WEISS, 87, passed
away peacefully on
Feb. 22, 2017, in
West Bloomfield,
where she lived
most of her life.
Weiss
She was born
May 8, 1929, in
Detroit to Russian
immigrant par-
ents, Ida and Abe Warshawsky.
Edee was a very friendly, social
woman who was always enthusias-
tic to join family and friends in a
variety of activities.
Much of her life revolved around
raising three fun, wild, adventur-
ous kids whom she encouraged to
experience life to the fullest, excel
and follow their dreams.
Mrs. Weiss was an active out-
doors woman, who enjoyed golf,
tennis, taking the kids to the beach
and nature walks. Other favorite
pastimes were cooking, playing
bridge with her amazing group of
fun-loving lady friends and garden-
ing; she favored all things bloom-
ing, bright, cheerful and colorful.
She thrived in many creative
pursuits like knitting and weav-
ing and spent several years as a
weaving studio assistant, work-
ing for Robert Kidd at Cranbrook
School as well as in her own well-
equipped weaving studio.
Edee was a member of

Hadassah, volunteered at ORT and
the Detroit Zoo in the butterfly
exhibit.
She is survived by her children,
Linda Weiss (Fred Dickenson),
Daniel Weiss (Michelle LePaige),
and Dr. Robert Weiss; treasured
grandchildren, Brett Smith
(Morgan Smith), Jake, Melissa and
Michael Weiss, Kyle and Carly
Weiss; sisters, Sonya Balbes, Lillian
Jacobs; brother and sister-in-law,
Simon Warshawsky and Delores
Cohen; many nieces and nephews;
devoted caregivers, Doris Popov
and Juana Zevallos.
Contributions may be made
to the Alzheimer’s Association
or to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangement by Dorfman Chapel.

Yedwab

RABBI STANLEY
YEDWAB, 86, died
Feb. 20, 2017, at
his home in
Bellevue, Wash.
Rabbi Yedwab
was a crusader
for civil rights,
an immigration
activist as well
as a gifted thera-
pist, teacher and

preacher.
He served at Temple Beth Am,
Lakewood, N.J., for 39 years before
his retirement in 1998. As his intel-
lect receded toward the end of
his life and his memory virtually
disappeared, somehow, miracu-
lously, his wisdom and kindness
remained. He was a remarkable
man.
Predeceased by his beloved wife,
Myra, he is survived by his son,
Rabbi Paul Yedwab and his wife,
Wendy; daughter, Laura Yedwab
and her husband, Daniel Weise;
and grandchildren Ariella, Jesse,
Zoe and Nathan.
Funeral services were held at
Beth Am Shalom in Lakewood.
Interment followed at Beth Olam
Memorial Park in Lakewood.
Contributions may be made to the
