Her local fam- ily tree nowhere near Eisenberg describes a full story. Her deep New York roots spanned from Ohio to Michigan, clear across the coun- try and around the globe. No matter where any of the family traveled, Renee always said, “While you are in […], you must call […] and say hello.” Thanks to Renee’s lifelong friends, Ed and Joyce Welford, her world included a wonderous 20-year romance with Lloyd Strausz (recently departed). Lloyd’s children, Jo and Richard; Richard’s wife, Brenda; Lloyd’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren all lovingly envel- oped Renee as one of their very own. Renee was constantly armed with advice to better one’s life. She was an immaculate dresser, a patron of the arts, an excellent cook, a fine food aficio- nado. She was grandmother to Sasha; a mother-in-law who treated Marshall’s wife, Shelley, and Larry’s partner, Vicki, as daughters. Her lifespan was filled with deep love, friendship and affection for everyone she met. She was a beloved mother, identical twin to Elaine Gelda, former Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood leader, avid bridge player in a dedicated group of friends who continue playing to this day. By her side were her eldest son, Laurence; daughter, Laurel; and youngest son, Marshall. Her husband Bernie was laid to rest in 1997. Clemens surrounded by family. Mrs. Goldberg was Shirley Goldberg born and raised in Mt. Clemens and will be remembered as a wonderful wife, loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born to Irving and Dora Rubin on April 26, 1924, in Mt. Clemens. She met her loving husband, Larry, at the USO in Mt. Clemens and the two were jitterbug partners for life. They raised their two children, Todd and Jan, in Mt. Clemens and volunteered for sev- eral organizations throughout her life. She enjoyed singing, dancing, golf, bowling, swimming, tennis, cooking, word puzzles and loved her family with passion. She graduated as valedictorian of Mt. Clemens High School along with many honors and attended University of Michigan school of education. Shirley never met a nonprofit that she didn’t like and gave generously her whole life. Mrs. Goldberg is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Emily Goldberg of Mt. Clemens; daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Greg Phillips; broth- er, Martin Rubin; grandchildren, Rachel Goldberg, Jacob Goldberg, Chelsea and Justin Platten, Bryce Phillips, Sloane Phillips; great-grandchild, Maya Platten; nieces and nephews, Dr. Linda Bolton- Blackman and Sid Blackman, Betsy and David Madorsky, Valerie and Tim Frances, Peter Rubin, Michael and Lori Rubin; dear great-nephews, great-niec- es, other relatives and friends.
