the traditional approaches, he also
can control perspective and depth
of field, which allows for occasional
visual distortions.
With early instruction from his
dad, Zeichner has been photograph-
ing and printing for 50 years. He
went on to earn a degree in advertis-
ing design and visual communica-
tions from the Pratt Institute in New
York and has worked as a motion-
picture photographer-editor and
a salesman for broadcast and TV
equipment.
“I’ll be showing 25 framed images
in Royal Oak with four or five larger
than the rest at 16 inches by 20 inch-
es with frames that are 24 inches by
30 inches,” he explains.
“The smaller pieces will be 11
inches by 14 inches with frames
that are 16 inches by 20 inches.
There also will be a browsing bay of
mounted, unframed prints.”
Among the images will be scenes
from the Greek Isles and other
places outside the country, moun-
tain ranges to coastlines inside
America and humorous looks at the
outdoors.
In an image from Maine, old car
parts are shown in a tightly wooded
area. A friend’s sculptural projects,
concentrating on found objects
stored outdoors, provided the inspi-
ration.
“I used to show in several local
galleries, but so many of them have
closed,” he says.
Still, there will be a gallery show-
ing of a photo essay picking up on
environmental renewal projects.
It captures construction sites with
toy construction vehicles placed for
imaging when workers are off the
job. Articipate in Berkley will display
“Under Construction: A Celebration
of Renewal” in April.
“When I work with traditional
photography, I feel like I’m doing the
heavy lifting in the field,” Zeichner
says. “Digital photography can be
very forgiving.” •
