OUR PETITE FILET DINNER
IS HAPPENING AGAIN!

new Black Rock Bar & Grill opened at 12515 Hall Road in
Utica, just east of the Van Dyke Expressway. Black Rock
Bar & Grill is an award-winning steakhouse specializing
in certified Angus beef steaks, seafood and chicken served sizzling
on a 755o volcanic lava stone.
The 10,500-square-foot location seats 400 people, includes a
private party room for up to 36 and a spacious all-season patio for
dining in any weather. The restaurant is open for lunch and din-
ner, and features a full bar and dozens of large flat-screen TVs.
Brian Elias, founder of 1-800-HANSONS, a home improvement
company, is on the road a lot, especially on the East Side, and had
trouble finding a great
steakhouse. He loved the
Black Rock Bar & Grill
concept and decided to
open one, but he needed
a partner. He teamed
up with Jack and Jake
Schifko, a father-son duo,
who already own and
operate the very success-
ful Canton Black Rock Bar
& Grill.
Jack, the senior Schifko,
is a general contractor
and managed the entire
build-out for the Utica
location, converting a former Champps into the new flagship
Black Rock store — a model for future franchise locations.
“There’s nothing pretentious about Black Rock Bar & Grill,”
Elias says, “just great food at great prices, cooked the way custom-
ers want it because they do it themselves. All we do is sear the
meat so it arrives at the table sizzling and bursting with flavor.”
At Black Rock, your choice of meat or seafood arrives sitting
atop a square, inch-thick piece of volcanic granite heated to over
750o. Your server shows you how to slice and cook your meat or
seafood — some items sear in just a few seconds before reaching
your preferred taste.
“Cooking your own meal is the culinary rage these days and
with our method, your last bite will taste just as good as your
first,” Elias adds. “Where else can you get a 6-ounce sirloin steak
and two sides for only $15.99? We’ve dubbed this our ‘Signature
6.’”
The first Black Rock Bar & Grill opened in Hartland, Mich., in
2010 and now has franchises in Canton, Novi, Woodhaven and
Utica. Other planned locations include Troy, Lansing, Saginaw,
Ann Arbor and Davison.
Black Rock Bar & Grill is open Sunday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-mid-
night and Friday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 a.m. It does not take reserva-
tions, but diners can call (586) 488-1747 for priority seating. For
more information, visit blackrockrestaurants.com. •
