Dennis Rice and Richard Lulkin had bowled together for several years, but Linda Smiler and Ruth Amster Rice had just met at a bowling banquet the previous December. Linda and Richard married Feb. 4 at Temple Israel; Ruth and Dennis a day later in Cleveland, Ohio. At bowling, the Tuesday before they were to marry, Dennis mentioned his plans to fly to Florida and then cruise to Nassau. He sug- gested Richard try to get reservations for the same instead of going to Chicago in the snow. Richard was able to make the last-minute arrangements, and the couples spent their won- derful first honeymoon together. The Rices moved to Florida 30 years ago, but distance could not affect their friendship. This February, 50 years later, they will celebrate their anniver- saries together on another cruise, this time to the Caribbean — with a stateroom and no bunk beds! • Ashley Nicole Fogel will chant from the Torah as she cele- brates her bat mitz- vah at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield on Saturday, Feb. 4.
