In Memory of Mandell “Bill” Berman

The Board of Directors, Musicians, and Staff of the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra fondly remember Mandell “Bill” Berman, 1917-2016, a pillar of
our community and lifelong supporter of our DSO.

Bill first heard the DSO through Detroit Public School field trips to
Orchestra Hall as a young student. Decades later, he and his beloved wife
Madge returned the gift of music, enabling tens of thousands of Detroit
schoolchildren to hear the DSO through their support of Live from
Orchestra Hall: Classroom Edition webcasts.

On Bill’s 99th birthday this past November, the DSO announced that he
and Madge would be our 2017 Heroes Gala honorees this coming June,
in recognition of their incredible impact on the DSO and their support of
numerous causes in the Jewish community, and across education, healthcare,
social services, and the arts.

We celebrate the life of Bill Berman. May his memory be a blessing.
