JEWS, MUSLIMS SHARE EVENTS

The Jewish Community Relations
Council/AJC and its young leadership
program (ACCESS) joined with the
Muslim Jewish Forum of Detroit in
November to present "Escape From
Yemen — A Night of Dialogue" at the
College for Creative Studies in Detroit.
More than 60 Jewish and Muslim
young professionals heard Mohammed
Al Samawi and Dan Pincus share their
personal story of Mohammed's harrow-
ing rescue from war-torn Yemen by his
American friends, and the power of a
dynamic partnership that has overcome
differences and stereotypes.
The following afternoon, Al Samawi
and Pincus presented "The Story of a

Muslim Jewish Partnership" to nearly
100 local Muslim, Jewish and Christian
community members at a program,
co-sponsored by the JCRC/AJC and the
Michigan Muslim Community Council,
at the Townsend Hotel.
JCRC/AJC Vice President Alicia
Chandler said, "These excellent pro-
grams highlight how much we need to
learn to live together and work together
in Detroit. Now more than ever, we
must bring our communities together
and focus on the positive things we can
do right here"
Both programs were underwritten by
a grant from the Ravitz Foundation. *
