Commerce Township, died Dec. 5,
2016.
He is survived by his mother,
Carol Egnater; brother and
sister-in-law, Bruce and Terri
Egnater; nieces and nephew, Ian
and Morgan Egnater, and Micah
Egnater; great-nephew, Elliott
Egnater; uncles and aunt, Marvin
and Fay Kreske, and Louis Egnater;
other loving relatives and friends.
Mr. Egnater was the devoted son
of the late Bernard Egnater.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be

at home in
Walnut Creek,
Calif., surround-
ed by his loving
family.
Eick
He was born in
Berlin, Germany,
in 1937. His
mother and father had the foresight
to escape in 1939 while the rest of
the family perished in the camps.
They sought refuge in the only
place that was open to Jews fleeing
Germany at the time, the port of
Shanghai, China.
Ernest and the family spent near-
ly a decade in a Japanese-controlled
ghetto in Shanghai, struggling to
stay fed while watching as bombs
dropped from both Japanese and
Allied forces.
The family immigrated to
America in 1948, settling in
Detroit.
Ernie worked as a salesman for J.
Levin Sons, a dry-cleaning supplies
company, for more than 50 years.
As a people person, he thrived in
his interactions and friendships
with all his customers.
He loved classical music, cinema
and being part of the community at
the Birmingham Temple.
Mr. Eick is survived by his wife,
Rochelle; children, Michelle (Keith)
Tandowsky, Stephanie (Dori) Eick,
Suzanne (Lonny) Schwartz, Amy
Gotliffe, Josh Eick and Gordon
Eick; six grandchildren, all of
whom live in California.
