and the official kick-off to the
holiday shopping season, Gazelle
Sports opened the doors of its new,
3,000-square-foot store at 99 W. Maple
Road in downtown Birmingham.
The Michigan-based running and
fitness lifestyle retailer occupies a
prime spot in the Woodward Building,
a landmark structure that runs the
length of Maple Road between Old
Woodward and Pierce Street in the
heart of Birmingham's principal shop-
ping district.
For the last year-and-a-half, the
18,000-square-foot Woodward
Building has been undergoing
extensive rehabbing and remodeling
under the direction of Sam and Max
Surnow of Birmingham-based Surnow
Company.
Birmingham is Gazelle Sports fifth
location in Michigan and second in
Metro Detroit, joining the Northville
location that opened in 2015. Gazelle
Sports specializes in activewear
apparel, footwear, gear and accessories
for running/walking, yoga, fitness and
lifestyle/casual. Founded more than
30 years ago as a store in Kalamazoo,
Gazelle Sports also has West Michigan
locations in Grand Rapids and
Holland.
