WHY DIDN’T MORE JEWS
SUPPORT DONALD TRUMP?
Berl Falbaum’s column “Nearly A
Quarter Of Jews Choose Trump. Why?”
(Nov 17, page 6) chastises President-elect
Donald Trump for anti-Semitism.
Despite what may have been said or
inaccurately portrayed in the past, today
President-elect Trump steadfastly sup-
ports Israel. He has said that Israel is the
first country he would visit in the region.
He declared that if Israel were attacked,
the United States would come to its
defense. Trump also endorses Jewish
settlements in the West Bank. He would
also move the American embassy to
Jerusalem.
Additionally, Trump is not a fan of
the Iran nuclear deal, a deal that Prime
Minister Netanyahu warns allows Iran
to receive billions of dollars in sanc-
tions relief without fully dismantling its
nuclear program.
So, my question is, why didn’t signifi-
cantly more Jews vote for President-elect
Donald Trump?

IT’S TIME TO ABOLISH
THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE
Professor Jeffrey Bernstein’s column
“Why Hillary Clinton’s Popular Vote
Victory Is Misleading” (Nov. 24, page 6)
certainly emphasizes a basic fact in presi-
dential campaigns: that the goal is to
win a majority in the Electoral College.
He does a service in reminding us of an
important civics lesson: that a candidate
for the presidency may lose the popular
vote but become the next president of
the United States.
This has happened several times in
our history, where one candidate won
the popular vote but lost the Electoral
College vote. The fact that this has hap-
pened twice now in just 16 years should
make us seriously consider whether the
Electoral College is required.
The presidential election is the only
one in our nation’s democratic system
that is decided in such an indirect way.
All other elections are decided by who
wins either a majority or a plurality of
the votes cast.
Certainly, there were historical reasons
that the Founding Fathers created the
Electoral College. But history shows that
such a system distorts the majority will
of the people in a particular election. It
is time to create a fairer democratic sys-
tem for future presidential elections and
eliminate the Electoral College.

HILLEL TEACHER WON
STUDENTS’ ADMIRATION
Thanksgiving eve, we opened the
Jewish News to be greeted by a full-page
ad announcing the Hillel Day School
60th year celebration breakfast (Nov. 24,
page 19). In the center of the ad was
a photograph of our father, Menachem
Glaser, z”l.
The joy we felt at that very moment
was immense. We have been blessed
to proudly wear the title “Menachem
Glaser’s daughters” throughout our lives
as a badge of honor. We have frequently
witnessed the respect and admiration
which have always followed our father.
We have heard former students tell
him: “Having had you as my teacher has
made me a better father” or “The love
for Torah that you instilled in me over 30
years ago has remained with me during
my entire adult life.”
The consistent outpouring of love,
warmth, esteem and accolades showered
upon our father have confirmed what we
have always known. Menachem Glaser
was truly a man of honor and integ-
rity, the quintessential educator whose
love of children, passion for Judaism,
Jewish education and the Jewish people,
enormous knowledge and strength of
character accompanied him every step
of his life.
How fitting that Hillel Day School
chose Mr. Glaser as the emblem of
Jewish education in tribute and recogni-
tion of this most deserving man.
