owns Phoenix Rising Soaps (facebook.

homemade cured soaps ($6-8 per
bar) made from shea, coconut and
avocado butters.
■ For the foodie on your gift list,
Wildtree Foods (mywildree.com/pws/
alyssaco/tabs/home.aspx) just released
its first kosher-certified product,
Garlic Galore (3.7 oz. jar/ $10). It
also offers tons of fabulous healthy,
organic, allergy friendly and gluten-

■ Founded by a Canadian couple,
Cuddle + Kind (cuddleandkind.
com) has a goal of providing 1 mil-
lion meals per year. The company
offers all-cotton, ethically crafted,
heirloom-quality handmade dolls
from Peruvian artisans. Sales benefit
global childhood hunger by support-
ing World Food Program School Meals
Program, which provides nutrition to
18.2 million children in 65 countries.
The sale of each doll ($45-$65) pro-

vides 10 meals.
■ Give a skein or a subscrip-
tion of yarn with conscience. Darn
Good Yarn (darngoodyarn.com) was
founded in New York State in 2008 by
a woman U.S. Airforce veteran, and
sells domestic and imported dyed and
dyeable yarns from environmentally
responsible fibers such as banana,
hemp and recycled materials. Proceeds
from sales support women’s economic
empowerment in developing countries,
fair trade practices and principles of
environmental sustainability.
■ Every 26 seconds, a teen in America
drops out of high school. Each purchase
from Detroit-based clothing and acces-
sories retailer Merit (meritgoodness.
com) gives 20 percent to help send
students to college with scholarships. Its
FATE program for under-served high-
school students works with 20 students
in the Detroit area. Look for Merit’s
FATE clothing line, including the lunch
buddy classic tee ($42).
