Brunch With A

Bang!

GreenSpace Cafe
Saturday and Sunday
brunch: 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
215 W. 9 Mile Road,
Ferndale
(248) 206-7510

If you’re a fan of GreenSpace Cafe’s killer lunch
and dinner menu, get ready for a seriously
tasty vegan brunch.
Despite the healthful, plant-based cuisine,
owners Dr. Joel Kahn and Daniel Kahn have
developed a sinfully good cocktail menu.
The autumn mimosa takes this brunch-
tim e beverage to the next level with a splash
of apple cinnamon kombucha and freshly
squeezed lemon.
The food selection is plentiful and the por-
tions are substantial. One of the most popular
items is a fun twist on regular pancakes,
featuring hearty masa (corn) cakes garnished
with a decadent caramel drizzle, blackberries,
almond crumble and pure Michigan maple
syrup.
As far as savory items go, the flavor-packed
scrambled tofu is the star of its hearty break-
fast burrito and English breakfast, featuring
blackened tempeh, sauteed mushrooms, grilled
cherry tomatoes and some of the tastiest home
fries out there.
For diners with smaller appetites, there are
several sides and lighter dishes, including the
tofu scramble with turmeric, red peppers, gar-
lic and onion or the sweet and satisfying chia
seed pudding.
Looking for an even better excuse to try
GreenSpace Cafe’s new menu? To celebrate its
first anniversary, guests can enjoy discounts
and specials from Dec. 1-4. Half off brunch
and mimosas are scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4.
Make sure to mark your calendars and bring a
healthy appetite!

If you haven’t made it to Detroit recently, a trip
to Dime Store makes for a wonderful weekend
adventure. Located inside the historic Chrysler
House, diners won’t find anything less than some
of the most unique, locally-sourced eats.
Zingerman’s coffee is among the many featured
beverages, but be sure to sample a beermosa or
peach mimosa if the mood strikes.
The food options are far from boring — even
the veggie omelet is in a league of its own, with
shiitake and oyster mushrooms, red peppers and
sharp white cheddar.
For diners who like spicy, the Duck Bop Hash
is an unbeatable combination of diced potatoes
underneath a medley of “house-confit duck

leg,” bulgogi, pickled vegetables and a fried egg,
topped with a plentiful drizzle of sriracha.
Healthy items are also aplenty at Dime Store,
with offerings such as steel-cut oatmeal, yogurt
and granola.
However, newcomers might want to consider
indulging just a little on their first visit with some
brioche French toast or the malted Belgian waffle.
The lunchtime options are just as satisfying,
with specialties including mac and cheese, along
with fresh salads and sandwiches.
Stuck on deciding between breakfast and
lunch? Go crazy and order your eggs with a
side of Dime Store’s unbeatable French fries and
truffle mayo!

runch is a beautiful thing. It’s a
free-for-all adventure that allows
for plenty of room to get some extra
sleep while also tending to the inevitable
mid-morning hunger pangs.
It’s the one meal where eggs and pan-
cakes, sandwiches and burgers are accepted

together at one table, and it’s not the least
bit farfetched to sip on a bubbly mimosa or
zesty Bloody Mary.
If you’re looking to add a little funk to
your mid-morning routine, consider try-
ing one of these outside-of-the-box brunch
spots this weekend.

At Jonny Cakes Cafe, you can get your sugar fix
with red velvet, Oreo, cinnamon roll, and peanut
butter and Nutella pancakes any day of the week.
This year-and-a-half-old dinette is also famous
for enticing variations of eggs benedict, skillets,
crepes and omelets.
The Cali Chicken omelet is considered a fan
favorite. It comes filled to the brim with flavorful
grilled chicken, onions, tomatoes, swiss cheese and
plenty of guacamole. All omelets and skillets are
served with fresh fruit or potatoes, pancakes or
toast (and yes, you can upgrade your cakes to any
of the fancy variations).
For chicken and waffle lovers, Jonny Cakes has
its own tasty version, featuring succulent, crispy
chicken atop a thick Belgian waffle. For an added
twist, try the red velvet waffle to accompany this
Southern brunch staple.
Last but not least, don’t head out the door with-
out ordering a tall glass of the freshly squeezed
orange juice.
