94, of West Bloomfield,
died Nov. 16, 2016.
She was born in
Sydney, Australia, and
came to the United
States in 1948 with her
American husband,
Abel
Isadore.
She lived for 50 years
in Cleveland, Ohio,
where she was an avid tennis player. Mrs.
Abel owned a knit shop and designed
many beautiful garments for herself and
others. She loved playing mah jong and
also excelled at table tennis.
Belle was a world traveler, going on
her last cruise at 92. She was loved by her
neighbors and friends, whom she always
welcomed. She was a role model for many
as an amazing lady with an indomitable
spirit, a zest for life and an optimistic view
of the world.
Mrs. Abel is survived by her daugh-
ters and son-in-law, Sari and Anthony
Hornfeck, Lori Levy; son and daughter-
in-law, Mark and Diane Abel; brother
and sister-in-law, Dr. Benjamin and Ellen
Goodman; grandchildren, Robyn Cuyler,
Lisa (Jason) Bogardus, Ryan Hornfeck,
Joshua (Seana) Rubin, Michael Abel, David
Abel; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Zachary
and Madeline Rubin, Olivia Cuyler; sister-
in-law, Leah Goodman.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Isadore Abel; sister of the late Albert
Goodman and the late Dr. Cecil (the late
Eve) Goodman; the mother-in-law of the
late Louis Levy.
Interment was held at Machpelah
Cemetery in Ferndale. Contributions may
be made to the Isadore Abel Memorial
Fund at Congregation B’nai Moshe or to a
charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by
Dorfman Chapel.
