Ava Carrick
Marv and Eleanor Weinstein
SPECIAL MOMENTS
Smiling 50 Years Later
E
leanor Greenbaum and Marvin
Weinstein were introduced by
mutual friends Les Asimov and
Al Granitz in a written letter in 1962.
At the time, the young men were
classmates at Eastern Michigan
University and Eleanor was a junior
in high school. In a kibitz, Les and
Al bet that Eleanor and Marv would
eventually marry. They wrote this
prediction on a piece of paper and
signed, sealed and delivered it to
Marv.
Marv went all out on that first
date April 21, 1962. He took Eleanor
downtown to a movie (Judgment at
Nuremberg) and dinner on a double
Evans twins
date with Al and his date. “We man-
aged to have a fun time despite
the intense movie and Al Granitz.
But that’s a story for another time,”
Eleanor writes.
Eleanor and Marv had a four-year
courtship and married Nov. 20, 1966,
at Congregation B’nai Moshe. Fifty
years later, their family consists of
children Jeff, Rob and Deb, who mar-
ried Fenella, Emily and Matt, who
created grandchildren Brooklyn,
Josie, Alivia, Marcus and Tessa.
“We smile because we are grate-
ful for the memories our family have
given us and look forward to many
more,” Eleanor writes.
