Shop
Small!

To support local businesses.

Lynne Konstantin | Arts & Life Editor

S

aturday, Nov. 26, is no longer the day after Black
Friday — it’s got its own claim as Small Business
Saturday, celebrated across the country. And Metro
Detroit, and Detroit proper, has no shortage of small
businesses, beckoning with their enticing wares. Here, a
roundup of destinations to get your Chanukah shopping
on when — and where — the getting’s good.

200 ARTISTS UNDER ONE ROOF
Detroit’s Russell Industrial Center is
home to the largest artist community
in the Midwest — painters, sculptors,
musicians, photographers, fashion
designers, potters, writers and more are
at home in its 2.2 million square feet.
In addition to vendors, check out spe-
cial events and demonstrations. Open
10 a.m.-9 p.m. 1600 Clay St., Detroit.

MADE STUDIO + MARKET
In addition to sharing your love for local
small businesses, Made Studio + Market
wants you to celebrate women entrepre-
neurs, regional artists and community
building. A carefully curated lifestyle bou-
tique in West Bloomfield, Made is owned
by Christy Brennan and Katheryn Hansen
and features artists including James Oscar
(whose paintings hang on the wall in the
photo, left), Lead Head Glass (who made
the terrarium) and Alchemy Slow Living
Studio, a spa dedicated to natural henna
body art. Also featured at Saturday’s
Holiday in Bloom: work by floral designer/
artist Lisa Waud, owner of Pot & Box
and creator of Flower House Detroit, a
floral art installation held in a formerly
abandoned property. The project was
then photographed by Heather Saunders
and turned into a limited-edition book by
the same title. Open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. 6545
Commerce Road, West Bloomfield. (248)
