As part of his mitzvah experience, he collected donations and played basket- ball for Hoops for Heart to benefit the American Heart Association, which he found very rewarding. Ian Sergei Brown, son of Diana and David Brown, will read from the Torah on the occasion of his bar mitzvah at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield on Ian Brown Saturday, Nov. 19. He will be joined in cele- bration by his siblings Isabella and Dean. Ian is the loving grandchild of Edith and Alex Gertsmark, and Beverly and Dr. Robert Brown. Ian is a student at Roeper School in Birmingham. As part of his mitzvah project, he made blankets and welcome packages for residents of the South Oakland Shelter staying at Temple Israel, which he found to be very rewarding. Alexis is a student at West Hills Middle School in West Bloomfield. As part of her mitzvah project, she donated children’s books to the Forman Family Library at the Orchards Children’s Services. She found this experience to be very rewarding. Sharing in her celebration will be her siblings Rachael, Danielle and Josh. She is the grandchild of Florence and the late Harvey Herrmann, and Linda Sandler and Larry Sandler.
