hen friends tell you to “chill
out,” you could just relax. Even
better, you could head to Live
Cryo.
Two or three minutes inside a Live Cryo
chamber in one of six locations around
Metro Detroit will accelerate the body’s
natural recovery while improving overall
well-being and energizing the body.
Jeff Yatooma, Bloomfield Township
entrepreneur, was exposed to
cryotherapy on television and saw the
possibilities of helping athletes recover
from workouts quicker, helping arthritis
victims reduce inflammation, helping those
with psoriasis reduce skin irritation and
helping everyone burn up to 800 calories
and enjoy a decent night’s sleep. A Dr. Oz
episode convinced him of the possibilities
to help others and alleviate chronic pain.
“A close friend suffered severe arthritis
pain. He would pay anything to find relief
if he knew where to find it,” Yatooma
says. “In this product, he could find
relief. Because drugs aren’t the only
solution, and their side effects can be very
problematic. With him in mind, I started
Live Cryo to make this service available to
everyone.
“While I love the benefits of the 500-800
calorie burn and the increase in energy,”
he adds, “the pain relief is amazing
for many people and it is all natural.
Increasing convenience and putting
together an unlimited package that could
be used throughout the Live Cryo network
of partners was important to me.”
Over the years, professional athletes
have taken ice baths to reduce
inflammation and speed recovery. LeBron
James is famous for his endorsement of
cryotherapy throughout the NBA finals
when the Cleveland Cavaliers took home
the championship. The Phoenix Suns,
Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, Dallas
Mavericks and Tampa Bay Bucs have a cryo
chamber in their training facilities, just to
name a few.
Yatooma is not only the founder of Live
Cryo, he’s also a certified operator who
is partnering with existing businesses to
grow the company larger in Michigan
and make whole-body cryotherapy more
accessible to everyone. Results speak for
themselves.
“Many people reduce muscle and joint
pain with ice packs. With this convenient,
affordable process, the whole body
receives the restorative benefits. Ice packs
and Ice baths trigger a topical reaction,
you can think of it like a band aid, where
whole-body cryotherapy triggers a
systemic reaction and gets to the root of
the problem,” he says.
Whole body cryotherapy is skin
exposure to ultra-low temperatures
(-200 to -260 degrees F) during which a
systemic anti-inflammatory response is
triggered that activates accelerated repair
and recovery. Cryogenics is the science
that addresses the production and effects
of very low temperatures. The word
originates from the Greek words “kryos”
meaning “frost.”
Cryo treatments last just two or three
minutes of very dry cold. Yatooma says
it is very tolerable. The operator stays
with a client throughout the session. Each
person is supplied with tall socks, rubber
soled slippers and mittens to wear. Yet the
therapeutic benefits penetrate to address
arthritic hands or toes all the same.
Some people get a tingling sensation
during and immediately following
their session, but Yatooma says this
feeling disappears shortly after the
process. Afterward, people report a
brisk exhilaration, caused by the brain’s
release of high amounts of endorphins,
the chemical that makes us feel good
and energized. Some people retain this
buoyant feeling for days.
“What’s happening during cryotherapy
is vasoconstriction of the blood vessels,
pushing all the blood to the body’s core.
There the blood begins to hyper-filtrate,
enriching the blood with oxygen, nutrients
and enzymes and alleviating inflammation
throughout the body. People notice the
benefits big time,” Yatooma says.
On its website, LiveCryo.com, controlled
studies from the Mayo Clinic, major
hospitals and authoritative journals have
affirmed the value of cryotherapy for every
concern from fibromyalgia to multiple
sclerosis as well as the treatment of
depression. With extreme cold, the toxins
flush out of the body, muscles relax and
wrinkles are smoothed. Athletes achieve
peak performance levels and gain a
competitive edge.
Live Cryo chambers are being installed
at Powerhouse Gym, West Bloomfield;
Powerhouse Gym, Troy; Rochester
Athletic Club, Rochester; Maven Fitness-
Crossfit, Rochester; Clarkston Chiropractic;
and Get Real Weight Loss, Wixom.
Introductory sessions are $40, single
sessions run $60 and unlimited sessions
are $299 per month. Yatooma says the
benefits improve with repeated sessions.
For those with acute arthritis, relief is
worth every dollar and more.
“This will re-oxygenate the blood and
stimulate recovery. This is wellness you can
afford,” Yatooma says.
