here’s a new bakery coming to
Birmingham next week, with Love
& Buttercream Too preparing for
a grand opening on Nov. 9 across from the
Kroger complex on the southeast corner of
Maple and Woodward (746 E. Maple Road).
It’s a second location for owner Brooke
Wilson Vitale, who opened her first Love
RYAN
& Buttercream in Royal Oak in 2012 (3202
FISHMAN
Crooks Road). The Birmingham space is
considerably larger, some 6,300
square feet, which means it will
also host public and private events,
like birthday parties and baking
classes. Those classes will allow
Vitale, a former restaurant brand
consultant, to share her passion
with her customers — she left the
industry to complete her formal
training at the French Pastry
School in Chicago before launch-
ing the business.
All its desserts and baked goods
are original recipes, made from
scratch, without shortening, pre-
servatives, oils or any “fake stuff.”
The Birmingham location will
also offer seating for 20, and Vitale
is planning a breakfast menu
as well as a full-scale coffee service provided by Great Lakes
Coffee.

NEW IN ANN ARBOR
The Zingerman’s Community of Businesses also has a highly
anticipated opening slated for later this month, introducing Ann
Arbor’s Kerrytown to Miss Kim (415 N. Fifth Ave.). The restau-
rant was busy on Facebook in November, previewing its unique
build-out, furniture and a sneak preview of some exciting dishes.
I first mentioned the concept late last year, when the restau-
rant brand announced the venture with Ji Hye Kim, the former
deli employee turned entrepreneur, already having tremendous
success with her San Street food truck. The restaurant will fea-
ture customer favorites from the food cart as well as traditional
Korean dishes in a nearly 2,000-square-foot space. There will be
a strict no-tipping policy, with all employees earning not only an
hourly pay, but also benefits.
Dinner service will roll out this month, and it plans to add
lunch to the menu by January.

NEW FROM SASSON
Restaurateur Jeremy Sasson has been busy lately. Shortly after
opening Townhouse Detroit, he set his sights on an upscale
steakhouse concept on the ground floor of the Capitol Park
Lofts in Detroit (1145 Griswold St.). He’s finally announced a
name for the concept, Prime + Proper, which is scheduled for a
spring 2017 opening.
In addition to the 180-seat restaurant, Sasson is opening an
underground bar called Cash Only. The space will seat only 80
customers, accessible via hidden entrance. But don’t expect this
to be your next neighborhood hangout, the exclusive retreat will
not be advertised and, instead, will be reserved only for regular
customers and their guests. There will be no cell phones, cam-
eras or credit cards (fully living up to the name) allowed — even
the checks will be written by hand with a quill pen.
