HUMAN TRAFFICKING
LOCAL SYMPOSIUM

National Council of Jewish Women,
Greater Detroit Section (NCJW), in
cooperation with the school districts
of Bloomfield Hills, Walled Lake and
West Bloomfield will present a Human
Trafficking Awareness Symposium at 1
p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at West Bloomfield
High School Auditorium, 4925 Orchard
Lake Road.
The symposium will define human
trafficking, both labor and sex traffick-
ing, provide accurate information from
experts about trafficking in our area,
discuss the internet and social media’s
role in trafficking, explain current laws
regarding trafficking and what is still
needed, describe how victims of traffick-
ing can become survivors, and explore
what you can do to recognize and com-
bat human trafficking.
The information will be appropriate
for high school students or older, their
parents, teachers, and anyone in the
community interested in learning about
and combating human trafficking.
Speakers will include: special agents
from Homeland Security Investigations
and the FBI, representatives from the
University of Michigan Law School
Human Trafficking Clinic, Alternatives
for Girls, the Oakland County Sheriff ’s
Office, local law enforcement agencies as
well as other experts.
“Human trafficking is a growing prob-
lem, even here in Oakland County,” said
Sharyn J. Gallatin, symposium co-chair.
The cost is $10 per family; free for
high school students and educators.
