SUBJECT OF EVENT

Temple Israel will present the Alicia Joy
Techner Memorial Parenting Series, a
series of four parenting-focused events,
beginning Oct. 27.
An expansion of a one-day confer-
ence that has been held since 1979, it is
sponsored by Ilene and David Techner
in memory of their daughter Alicia
and is open to the community at no
cost (although advance registration is
requested).
“Alicia Joy Techner would have been
40 years old next year,” said David
Techner, funeral director at the Ira
Kaufman Chapel in Southfield. “Ilene
and I take great pride in knowing that
the community members who will
benefit from this series would have been
Alicia’s peers and friends, alongside her
siblings.”
Kari Provizer, director of the Robert
Sosnick Family Life Center at Temple
Israel where the events will be held,
said, “We appreciate the Techners step-
ping forward.”
The series is supported by the Jewish
Book Council.
The first event, “Crazy Jewish Mom”
on Oct. 27 looks at the delicate dynamic
of the mother-daughter relationship.
“Crazy Jewish Mom” is a night out with
author Kate Siegel and her mother, Kim
Friedman. Siegel is a writer and the
voice behind the Instagram account
@CrazyJewishMom, and Friedman is
an Emmy-nominated director of prime-
time television.
The event begins with a pre-glow
with Siegel and Friedman, which costs
$12 per person and includes wine, hors
d’oeuvres and dessert, with the main
event following at 7:30 p.m. at no cost to
attendees. RSVP at www.temple-israel.
org/CrazyJewishMom.
The event is supported by Marilyn
and Walter Wolpin Young Adult
Programming and Sisterhood at Temple
Israel.
Other events include Rabbi Susan
Silverman on sustaining a family on
Nov. 17; humorist Elizabeth Isadora
Gold on parenting on Dec. 15; and Julie
Tarney, the mother of a transgender
child, on Feb. 9.
