TV PREMIERES AND MORE
Oct. 2 sees the premiere of West World
on HBO, based on the 1973 film of the
same name in which advanced robots
in a Western theme park turn on the
rich patrons. Evan Rachel Wood, 29, co-
stars. Also on HBO is the highly antici-
pated comedy/drama series Divorce,
starring Sarah Jessica Parker, 51, as
a woman trying to make a new start.
Co-stars include Talia Balsam, 57, and
Alex Wolf, 18. Parker, Balsam and Wolf
are all children of Jewish fathers and
non-Jewish mothers (Balsam’s father
was the late actor Martin Balsam. Talia,
by the way, was long a famous footnote:
She was the only woman famous ladies’
man George Clooney wed before his
current wife of two years).
I made an error in the Emmy’s edition
of “Celebrity Jews” (Sept. 22) when I said
that Danish Jewish director Susanne
Bier, 56, didn’t get a directing nomi-
nation. She did, but not in the drama
category as others I mentioned — Bier
won for best director of a limited series.
And, yes, you heard correctly when lead
comedy series actor winner Jeffrey

Parker

Tambor, 72 (Transparent), told the band
to “sheket b’vakasha” as it tried to nudge
him off stage. It’s a phrase many of us
