Waterford, died Sept. 18,
2016.
She is survived by sons

two great-grandchildren;
brother, Sidney Black.
Mrs. Mullen was the loving wife of the late
Robert Mullen; the cherished mother-in-law
of the late Elaine Mullen; the dear sister and
sister-in-law of the late Harold and the late
Edith Black, and the late Nellie Black.
Interment was at Great Lakes National
Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the
Alzheimer's Association, 25200 Telegraph
Road, Suite 100, Southfield, MI 48033.

DORIS H. NEWMAN, 96, of Columbia,
Md., died Sept 12, 2016.
She is survived by her daughter and
son-in-law, Nadine and Michael Tracht of
Columbia, Md.; many other loving family
members and friends.
Mrs. Newman was the beloved wife of the
late Julian Newman.
Contributions may be made to a char-
ity of one's choice. Interment took place
at the Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit.

DOUGLAS PIERCE, 74,
of Orchard Lake, died
Sept. 13, 2016.
As the son of security
pioneer Milton Pierce,
who founded Guardian
Alarm in 1930, Douglas
spent his entire life in the
Pierce
industry.
After graduating from
Lawrence Technological University in 1965,
Douglas started his own security company,
Automatic Alarm. A decade later, Automatic
Alarm merged with Guardian Alarm and he
was appointed CEO. Douglas led the expan-
sion of the company into several new mar-
kets and the addition of Security Guard and
Medical Monitoring divisions.
He held numerous patents and was
a founding member of Net One Alarm
Association. Douglas' efforts have grown
Guardian into one of North America's largest
independently owned and operated security
companies.
Mr. Pierce is survived by his wife, Arlene
Pierce; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen
Fraiberg-Pierce and Damian Olivera, Linda
Pierce-Herron and Scott Herron; grand-
children, Ashley Fraiberg, Michael Fraiberg
and Ryan Fraiberg, Alexa Herron and Lucas
Herron; brother and sister-in-law, Richard
and Connie Pierce; sisters-in-law, Ronna
Gordon and Marilyn Kirschner.
He was the devoted son of the late Milton
and the late Sylvia Pierce; the loving son-in-
law of the late Charlotte and the late Morie
Nelson.
Interment was at Adat Shalom Memorial
Park Cemetery. Contributions may be made
to Jewish Hospice & Chaplaincy Network,

19th Annual Kever Avot. This very special program provides
an opportunity for older adults in the community to visit the
gravesides of their loved ones. This program serves the
residents of assisted living facilities and apartments.
