More than 8.5 million Israelis are counting on MDA's fast response — for everything from heart attacks to terror attacks. Your Support saves lives. -Cycle 6, sponsored Aug. 21 by the Jewish Historical Society of Michigan, included about 220 J-Cycle riders and about 40 volunteers, including a team of group leaders who made sure the groups stayed together and arrived safely from one point to the next. Volunteers also included the 14 docents who greeted each group of rid- ers as they arrived at one of eight loca- tions and shared the Jewish history of that building or neighborhood. Stops this year included a visit to the Boston Edison area of Detroit, once home to prominent Jewish Detroiters such as the Benjamin Siegel family, and a stop at Central High School, where principal David Oclander and a team of present-day students welcomed rid- ers to the building. There they saw the fabulous auditorium and walked the halls that once were home to nearly 90 percent of Detroit's Jewish population. A favorite among riders was also the stop at the Schvitz (bathhouse), followed by a visit to Greenfield Noodle, located in Detroit's North End. J-Cycle is not a fundraiser, but just one of the ways JHSM engages the com- munity and brings history to life. * Mike Kasky, JHSM vice president, talks Les and Liz Kannon of Ferndale about the Schvitz. with Wendy Rose Bice, JHSM executive director AFMDA Midwest Region 30100 Chagrin Blvd., Suite 150 Pepper Pike, OH 44124 Toll-Free 877.405.3913 midwest@afmda.org AMERICAN FRIENDS OF MAGEN DAVID ADOM SAVING LIVES IN ISRAEL Principal David Oclander of Central www.afmda.org 2054000 30 September 22 2016 Kevin Michaels, an owner of Greenfield Collegiate Academy speaks to J-Cycle Noodle and Specialty Company, talks participants. about the company's history in Detroit.
