When a local art teacher told her the drip-style painting resembled the work of Jackson Pollock (to which she replied a word unfit for print), Horton set out to have it acknowledged as authentic — turning down a too-low offer of purchase for $9 million in the process. Follow her story in the 2006 documentary Who the #$@! is Jackson Pollock? The film, screening 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, kicks off a three- part Life in Art series at the Berman Center for the Performing Arts, at the West Bloomfield JCC. Next up: Pollock — A Life in Art with Diane Heath, a lecture about the influential artist, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, followed by a screening of the film Pollock, starring Ed Harris with Marcia Gay Harden as Pollock’s wife, Lee Krasner, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28. Tickets for all start at $13. (248) 661-1900; theberman.org. BACK TO SCHOOL! RADCLIFFE ON DEMAND For whatever reason, Imperium got a very limited theater release last Friday, but it can be seen now on video-on- demand services. Daniel Radcliffe, 27, stars as a fresh-faced FBI agent who is tasked with pretending to be a neo-Nazi and infiltrating a domestic hate group that FBI intelligence says is planning a terrorist attack. Radcliffe has been highly praised for his perfor- mance in advance reviews, with the film itself getting mixed reviews — many authentic details, but the story line goes up and down in quality. The NY Jewish Week interviewed Radcliffe in connection with the film. Here are a few excerpts: “I’m not religious, but my mum’s Jewish; I’m technically Jewish. And I have to have a [expletive] swas- tika painted on me [while making the film] every day.” He continues: “There seemed something to me of immense value in that [the film] reminds people that there are other types of terrorists. It’s easier to deny their humanity. But the more aggressively dismissive we are of them, the more that plays into their world view.” And: “The scary thing about it is they’re not all skinheads tattooed with swastikas. There is a pseudo- scientific intellectual strain to it which is arguably much more dangerous and is how they justify their behavior.” * LB. of Sable $ 32.99 LB. of Lox $ 16.99 SPECIAL FOR TWO 14 $ Any Salad with two bowls of soup 99 BREAKFAST $ SPECIAL 3 99 exp 9/8/2016 LOX OR SABLE $ FOR TWO Includes Fruit and Fresh Coffee 19 99 exp 9/8/2016 DINNER SPECIAL $ Roast Chicken, Beef Short Ribs, Beef Brisket, Stuffed Cabbage 6 LATKES & SOUP 10 $ 7 99 expires 99 2/2/12 exp 9/8/2016 10 Both Include Fruit LOX OR SABLE APPETIZER 9 99 SOUP, SANDWICH $ 11 99 AND DRINK SIEGEL’S HOMEMADE $ 99 8 CHOPPED LIVER ANY QUART $ 99 OF SOUP AND 1 1 ANY SANDWICH $ exp 9/8/2016 exp 9/8/2016 exp 9/8/2016 expires 2/2/12 exp 9/8/2016 11 99 $ 1 DOZEN LATKES LB LB 99 LB LB exp 9/8/2016 exp 9/8/2016 CORNED BEEF & $ CABBAGE exp 9/8/2016 INCLUDES FREE COFFEE exp 9/8/2016 Two-eggs, hash browns, choice of meat & toast. 7 days a week Deli Tray for 10 $ 8.99 per person Dairy Tray for 10 $ 16.99 per person of of of of exp 9/8/2016 any Meat, $ Coleslaw, Potato Salad, Rye Bread 17 99 exp 9/8/2016 August 25 • 2016 69
