or a month this summer, from July 5-Aug. 5, 107 teens from Metro Detroit and 12 Israeli teens
explored Israel together during Teen Mission, a partnership between the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, local congregations and Tamarack Camps.
They were accompanied by nine local madrichim (counselors) and three Israeli madrichim as well
as Rabbis Daniel Schwartz from Temple Shir Shalom, Jen Kaluzny and Jen Lader from Temple Israel
and Aaron Bergman of Adat Shalom Synagogue.
The four-week trip was spent in Jerusalem as well as the north and south of Israel.
Mission co-chairs were Michael Berger and Phyllis Pilcowitz. The trip was made possible by the
generosity of Sue and Alan Jay Kaufman.

My viewpoint
has completly
changed. I am
closer to God, my
religion and my
community. We’ve
truly become a
family over these
last four weeks.

It’s
exciting to
experience
our home away
from home with
our neighbors
from the Detroit
community.
