MEMORIAL WITH A KISS
Want to help raise some much-needed
attention for Michigan’s planned World
War II Legacy Memorial? Then head to
Royal Oak’s Memorial Park (the northeast
corner of 13 Mile Road and Woodward
Avenue) this Sunday, Aug. 14, to “Kiss the
War Goodbye.” At 1 p.m., you’re encour-
aged to re-enact the kiss that marked the
end of WWII in the shadow of Seward
Johnson’s 25-foot-tall statute that captures
the famous moment and is on display for
a limited time only. The event is free and
open to the public; no tickets are required.

Symphony Orchestra Volunteer Council’s
Taste of Detroit Opening Night Dinner at

5:30 p.m. on Sept. 29. The fundraiser will
help support the DSO and features a menu
prepared by guest chefs from Detroit’s
Grey Ghost and Antietam as well as
Birmingham’s The Bird & The Bread.
Dinner will also include a visit from
Maestro Leonard Slatkin and the evening’s
guest artist, Hilary Hahn. The evening’s
