Fred, a retired physician, is an MSU graduate. Linda is a retired art teacher. The July 29 installation of the piece real- izes the couple’s 10-year dream. “The tranquil environment gave me a sense of inner peace and reflection,” Fred said. “When I began to think of leaving a legacy to my alma mater, I wanted it to be a work of art placed near the part of the MSU campus that inspired me the most.” In Strain’s bronze art, the Golds found an expression for “the physical intercon- nections that symbolize the emotional bonds that bridge our lives,” Fred said. “It speaks to us in the most fundamental of human needs and emotions, the need to love and be loved, the need to be an indi- vidual, but also part of a whole.” Duet will be displayed outside of the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center for students and guests of the University to enjoy year-round. *
