The Zionist Organization of America-
Michigan Region’s annual meeting
elected its new board of directors on
May 24.
Sheldon L. Freilich was elected
president; Dr. Barbara Goodman,
executive vice president; Irving
Ginsburg, secretary; Martin Lederman,
treasurer; Dr. Eugene Greenstein,
immediate past president.
Elected vice presidents were Dr.
Leora Bar-Levav, Dr. Charles Greenberg,
Cheryll Israel, Ed Kohl, Esther Krystal,
Ronna Ross, Diane Savin, Ronna Ross
and Fred Trinker.
At the meeting, three young adults
who joined the ZOA board were
introduced and spoke about their Jewish
activism.
Miriam Tylevich read the talk that
she previously had given to the board of
regents of the University of Michigan.
She addressed the U-M regents as an
alumna who is extremely worried and
disappointed with the way the univer-

sity handles the intimidation and free
speech of pro-Israel students on campus.
These included times when BDS groups
intimidate students on campus and the
effort to silence Jesse Arm and, by doing
so, silencing all pro-Israel students on
campus.
Rachel Lory spoke about creating
events for young adults and how to moti-
vate them to love Israel.
As a college student, Daniel Talmid
talked about the challenges in getting
young adults to be involved and the ways
we can try to create events that would
attract fellow students.

GRANTS OF $222,000

The Jewish Women’s Foundation of
Metropolitan Detroit (JWF) marked its
16th grant-making year with $222,000

in supporting causes that impact the
lives of Jewish women, their families and
