erkley-based Ameinu Detroit, a progressive Zionist
organization, did various chores on Sunday, July 17,
to help grow the bounty of Eden Gardens, an urban
garden on the East Side of Detroit. Nine Ameinu members
assisted Karen “Chava” Knox and block club members with
watering, weeding and putting together framed boxes for
making raised gardens. After sharing a birthday cake for
Chava’s birthday, the visitors had dinner at the original
Buddy’s Pizza on Six Mile at Conant.

Shabbat On Location

A

season-ending Shabbat on Location program
from Federation’s SPARC (Single Parent Alliance
and Resource Connection) program was held
June 17 at the Jewish Community Center in West
Bloomfield.
Participants enjoyed a poolside Shabbat meal together
as well as singing — and then more fun in the pool.
To learn more about SPARC, contact Dona Stillman at
(248) 833-2527 or email stillman@jfmd.org.
