GOLF FOR GLEANERS
The 13th annual Bernie Smilovitz
Hunger Free Summer Golf Classic, a
fundraiser for the Gleaners Community
Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan,
will tee off Monday, July 25, at the
Detroit Golf Club.
Along with playing a round with a
celebrity on one of the area’s historic golf
courses, golfers can win a raffle for a trip
to the 2017 Masters golf tournament.
Smilovitz, a sports anchor for WDIV
Channel 4, will be the auctioneer for VIP
experiences created for the Golf Classic.
Raffle tickets are $100, and no more
than 1,000 will be sold. The winner and
a guest will travel by private charter
plane and shuttle to Augusta National
Golf Course for the Masters and have
tickets to the final two rounds. Hotel
accommodations and meals are included
in the trip.
The winning raffle ticket will be
drawn at the Golf Classic, but the win-
ner doesn’t have to be present. To buy a
ticket, go to www.gcfb.org/augusta or call
(313) 308-0587.
Gleaners operates five food distri-
bution centers and supplies food to
535 agencies in Southeast Michigan.
Proceeds from the Golf Classic will help
the agency provide 2 million meals this
summer for hungry children.
For information on the Golf Classic,
go to www.gcfb.org/golf or contact Mary
Madigan at mmadigan@gcfb.org or
(313) 308-0629.
MORE RABBIS ON DIAMOND
Following up on a recent sports col-
umn about rabbis playing in the Inter-
Congregational Men’s Club Softball
League, Coach Mitch Kline said both of
Temple Shir Shalom’s rabbis are on the
roster of Kline’s new Shir Shalom No. 2
team.
Kline said Rabbi Daniel Schwartz
played in five of the team’s first eight
games and is now in Israel with a
teen mission group. Rabbi Michael
Moskowitz hopes to play during the
remainder of the season.
