It’s called The Runner, but contestants
are getting some help from the new 2017
Ford Escape as they keep their eyes on a
cash prize.
A first-of-its-kind reality show, The
Runner was created by executive produc-
ers Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. It cen-
ters on one individual — the Runner —
scrambling to make it across the United
States while five two-person teams, with
the help of those at home, give chase.
Viewers can root for a particular chase
team and use social media to provide
clues as to the Runner’s location at any
given time.
Ford Motor Company and Verizon’s
Go90 mobile app have formed an expan-
sive marketing collaboration that puts
the 2017 Ford Escape at the center of The
Runner, which is available on the Go90
app — on Apple or Android mobile
devices — as well as on AOL.com and
Xbox. The show runs through July.
The Runner is set to feature three new
episodes a day throughout the month,
enabling viewers to track the partici-
pants’ cross-country progress.

MICHIGAN IS CHEAPEST
STATE FOR CAR REPAIRS
In the age of connected and autonomous
cars, cybersecurity is a priority for auto-
makers and their suppliers. Mary Barra,
chairman and CEO of GM, will speak
at the opening of the Billington Global
Automotive Cybersecurity Summit, high-
lighting the importance the industry places
on having cyber-secure cars.
Joining Barra as keynoters at the sum-
mit are U.S. Transportation Secretary
Anthony Foxx and Phoebe Novakovic,
chairman and CEO of General Dynamics,
from 6-9 p.m., Thursday, July 22, at the
Cobo Center, Detroit.
The automotive industry is commit-
ted to sharing cybersecurity threat data,
engaging in information sharing, devel-
oping a shared set of cybersecurity “best
practices” and working with cybersecurity
researchers on cyber threat identification
and remedy.

Michigan was the cheapest state for
car repairs with a total average cost of
$354.13, including $150.29 for labor and
$203.84 for parts, according to a survey
by CarMD. California was the most
expensive at $435.47. Florida, mean-
while, ranked closest to the national
average repair cost (off by just 6 cents),
landing at No. 31 with $387.37.
The most common cause of check-
engine-light issues, according to the
study, was a faulty oxygen sensor. It was
the most frequently diagnosed repair
in half of all U.S. states and one that,
if left unrepaired, can slash a car’s fuel
economy.
“The least expensive states tend to
have a higher percentage of repairs that
can be addressed in a matter of minutes
versus major parts replacements that
require days in the shop,” CarMD said in
a statement.
