tional activists, the Jewish Community
Relations Council presented its 2016
Activist Award to Drs. Lynda and
Conrad Giles at an event June 8 at Adat
Shalom Synagogue in Farmington
Hills.
An extraordinary couple with a rich
and prolific legacy as esteemed Jewish
communal leaders in Metro Detroit
and nationally, they are accomplished
professionals who have devoted their
lives to building and securing a vibrant
Jewish future. Conrad Giles recently

became president of World ORT.
University of Michigan President
Dr. Mark S. Schlissel was the evening’s
featured speaker. Gary Torgow pre-
sented the award to the couple. Margie
Dunn and Mark Davidoff, Linda and
Tom Klein, Shelley and Joel Tauber,
and Malka and Gary Torgow served as
honorary co-chairs for the event.
Created in 2001, the award is given
annually to individuals passionate
about Detroit’s Jewish community who
champion Israel’s cause, reach out to
diverse neighbors or advocate Jewish
interests.
