Murray and Ina Pitt New Resource Chocolatey, full-bodied, long finish. Pitt Fund for Special Needs will help with health costs through Hebrew Free Loan. T he term “special needs” encompasses a wide range of challenges. Recognizing that the developmental, emotional and physical needs of some children and adults can require additional and sometimes costly life adjustments, one-time expenses and long-term ser- vices, the Pitt Fund for Special Needs was established at Hebrew Free Loan. Spearheaded by Murray and Ina Pitt, the fund offers interest-free loans in amounts up to a maximum of $10,000. “It gives our family great pleasure to start a special needs fund at Hebrew Free Loan,” Murray Pitt said. “Over the years, HFL has proven to be well-run, well-financed and a tremendous asset to our community. HFL’s involvement in the special needs community will, hopefully, bring additional support to an underserved community of those who so need it.” This program, an HFL partnership with Friendship Circle, JARC and Kadima, offers interest-free loans to qualifying Jewish families in Michigan that can be used to cover expenses involved with equipment, therapies, programs and services that help a person with physical and/or mental disabilities. Examples include home modifica- tion or personal equipment needs, such as wheelchair ramps, vehicles with wheelchair lifts, hearing aids or specialized car seats/wheelchairs not covered by insurance; a school para- professional, therapeutic services, resi- dential services or respite/child care, or help with future planning, such as legal fees to help families create a plan or trust for their loved one. “Kadima is grateful to HFL and the Pitt family,” said Eric Adelman, Kadima executive director. “This fund will provide desperately needed financial relief for Kadima clients and others managing mental health chal- lenges. What a great partnership for our community.” Levi Shemtov, Friendship Circle executive director, adds, “Many Friendship Circle families will benefit from the fund. Supportive equip- ment or a guide dog or a special camp program — these are just a few of the diverse expenses that can be covered. HFL carries a torch of the great tradition that Jewish communi- ties throughout the ages have had of providing interest-free loans in times of need. HFL and the Pitt family are to be lauded for adapting this value to the evolving needs of our community.” HFL Executive Director David Contorer notes, “One of the reasons HFL continues to be of service after 120 years is the agency’s ability to accommodate our borrowers. We see that these families need additional options and funding to make life bet- ter for the adults and children they love and care for, and we couldn’t be more grateful to the Pitt family for their support.” “The Pitt Fund makes caring for loved ones more manageable,” said Robert Blumenfeld, CEO of JARC. “The entire family is supported — every family member’s quality of life is enhanced — and that impact carries over to the entire community.” Each borrower should have at least one, but preferably two, qualify- ing Michigan cosigner(s) and, once approved, Hebrew Free Loan will work with each one individually to make the repayment terms as flexible as needed. Borrower information and commu- nications are strictly confidential. There are no fees to apply for this or any Hebrew Free Loan.
