he Jewish Community
Relations Council (JCRC)
is seeking physicians and
other medical professionals to
volunteer at an Interfaith Health
Fair for underserved residents of
Detroit to be held on Sunday, Aug.
7, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Munger
Elementary/Middle School in
Detroit.
Jewish, Muslim and Christian
physicians and healthcare providers
are being recruited to offer their
services for four hour shifts during
the program.
Organized by the JCRC and the
Michigan Muslim Community
Council, the Interfaith Health Fair
is being held in conjunction with
NCJW’s Back 2 School Store, which
provides children in need from
Detroit Public Schools with new
clothing, backpacks, personal sup-
plies and personal care items.
The health fair will provide free
medical screenings for the parents
and guardians who accompany
the children to the Back 2 School
Store. Henry Ford Health System,
Huda Clinic, Covenant Care, Jewish
Family Service and other organiza-
tions are sponsoring the health fair.
The August health fair is the fifth
free clinic sponsored by Detroit’s
Jewish and Muslim communities in
recent years. In addition to giving
clients access to potentially life-
saving information and referrals
for their health care, the health fair
offers the participating health care
professionals a meaningful inter-
faith experience and the opportu-
nity to get to know their colleagues
in each other’s faith communities.
Protocols will be in place for
patient referrals and, if neces-
sary, urgent treatment. The clinic
will feature education stations
with informational literature, and
social workers will be on hand
to assist with referrals to direct
service agencies. For more infor-
mation, contact Naomi Levine
at the JCRC: (248) 642-2656 or
nlevine@jfmd.org.
