A

new home-grown addition to its
staff is like another birthday pres-
ent for Bacco Ristorante, as it hits
its 14th year of being one of this locale
s
premier upscale dining establishments.
It may somewhat surprise many who
remember Jack Gorback Photography of
yesteryears, but are so happy for new addi-
tion Jared Gorback Being the grandson
of Gorback Photography founders Jack and
Esther Gorback, Jared chose the restaurant
game while his uncle Les Gorback today
continues in Franklin the fine Gorback
Photography name.
Soon hitting his own 35th birthday,
Jared is the new general manager at Bacco
Ristorante, Northwestern Highway between
12 and 13 Mile, Southfield He comes to
Bacco after jobs as a 15-year-old busboy at
Outback Steakhouse in West Bloomfield,
then prestigious stops later at watering
holes around the country as server, bar-
tender, assistant and general manager
at Cameron
s Steakhouse, Birmingham;
Ocean Prime, Troy and Phoenix; Mon
Ami Gabi in Las Vegas
Paris Hotel; White
Chocolate Grill in Scottsdale, Chicago
and Denver; Del Frisco
s Double Eagle
Steakhouse, Chicago; and Social Kitchen
and Bar, Birmingham.
Bacco owner
Luciano DelSignore
was only 10 years old
when his parents, John
and Lina, had their
Fonte de Amore in
Livonia and grew
up to become chef
under his dad then
took over its operation
Many of the favorite
dishes that numerous
people remember from
Fonte de Amore are
still served at Bacco
Roasted Branzino,

Filet Marino, Strozzapretti
Norchina, Gorgonzola topped
with cheese and finished with
a brandy and garlic demi-
glace, rigatoni with fresh moz-
zarella cheese and a delicious
tomato sauce from wonderful
San Marzano tomatoes, etc.
In fact, Bacco prides itself
on being able to prepare any
Italian dish people may want
Quite an achievement of
ethnic dining authenticity.
Bacco Ristorante seats 105 in the main
dining room and another 70 on the indoor/
outdoor patio Next door
s Bacco Saletta
for private functions seats another 55
Its bar lounge seats another 14, including
eight stools.
Five day hours are Monday-Thursday,
11:30-10; Friday, 11:30-11; Saturday, 5-11.
Being named an award-winning restau-
rant of the year by the Detroit Free Press
and Hour magazine is a major indication
of much goodness Bacco Ristorante
enjoys a coveted reputation on this, its 14th
birthday.
READER MINI REVIEW From
Jerry Silecchia You turn left out of the
Detroit-Windsor
tunnel to Ouelette
and left on
University for
about three-
quarters of a mile.
This takes you to
Sir Cedric
s Fish
& Chips, where
my wife, Doreen,
and I ventured to
in Windsor, just
across from the
Detroit River, for
some of the best
fish and chips
around. It is a

drab 1960s diner, very clean
and known for its fish and
chips.
They prepare large pieces of
whale halibut in a light batter
and flash fry them to a golden,
crispy perfection. Unlike cod,
which they also offer, the hali-
but is a much richer fish with-
out any
fishy
taste. Doreen and
I always leave raving about it.
Because the American dollar
is stronger than the Canadian,
Sir Cedric
s prices are even more reason-
able. It also offers haddock or shrimp and
will broil the fish if customers don
t care
for the fried version. We also enjoy Sir
Cedric
s own delicious tartar sauce. Two
kinds of vinegar are on the table as well. A
truly wonderful expe
rience.
MAIL DEPT In your column of May
12, 2016, a reader asked what used to be
at the present location of Eddie
s Gourmet,
and you correctly told her Giorgio
s. You
may want to inform her that the original
occupant was Biff
s Restaurant. As you no
doubt remember, there were a few Biff
s
in the Detroit area. They were known for
their tasty hamburgers. That Biff loca-
tion brings back fond memories of a place
where we teens hung out frequently.
Douglas Kahan.
THE WORLD KEEPS changing so
much that many times it is quite difficult
to catch up This is particularly true in
the restaurant business, where diners are
so desirous of something different Now
people are asking if there are restaurants
coming up like those we used to have
years ago Perhaps along the lines of
one that Marvin Chin never could get off
the ground floor Too bad, because his
Ports O
Call dining spot was a wonder-
ful concept Beautiful and different
Three restaurants at a single location
A complete seafood-only restaurant, a

Polynesian eatery and a Japanese sushi spot
It was on West Maple and Telegraph
but closed quietly Evidently too much
before its time but sure a wonderful
idea and one that, although not with the
same styles of dining or amount of eater-
ies, is something that soon might be in the
similar pattern-like presentation for a local
opening.
RELEASE DATE of Jerry Naftaly
s
Images of America-Northland is scheduled
for Aug. 8 by the former longtime mayor
of Oak Park and local community stalwart
96 pages with many memories and
Jerry being allowed access to archives of
Northland Mall He dedicates the tome
to his parents, Bill and Grace Naftaly, who
took Jerry to Northland for his bar mitz-
vah suit and shoes, among other remem-
brances.
After its release, signed, personalized
copies of the book will be available at
Amazon, Barnes & Noble and many local
places Jerry will also provide books to
local libraries and the Southfield Historical
Society.
OLDIE BUT GOODIE DEPT An
emaciated and bedraggled bum begging for
enough to get something to eat walks up to
a stranger and says, My wife ran off with
my best friend. I lost everything. My home,
my business and I
m starving. I haven
t
eaten in over a week.
The stranger notices the bum flipping a
$10 gold piece up and down while moaning
and sobbing and asks why he doesn
t use
the $10 gold piece to get something to eat.
What? cried out the bum. Use my
lucky coin?
