Mara’s groundbreaking work on improv- ing decision-making around mammography screening in older women and integrating prognosis to improve medical decision-making for older adults, in general, meets this high bar. She is an associate professor in medicine at Harvard’s Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. Baum Rosenbaum Jack Baum gradu- ated from Wayne State University with a master’s degree in educa- tion and a major in instructional technology. Kepes Two JVS staff members were recently honored with prestigious awards from the International Association of Jewish Vocational Services. Leah Rosenbaum, president and CEO, and Lauren Kepes, NEXTGen employ- ment specialist, received their awards at the IAJVS annual conference in Philadelphia. Rosenbaum was honored with the Bernie Rosenthal Executive Directors Award, pre- sented to an outstanding executive who demonstrates vision, leader- ship, compassion and perseverance. Kepes, an employment specialist, was named the recipient of the Ron Coun Award, which recognizes an outstanding young professional who mirrors Coun’s passion for Jewish vocational services. Kepes, who splits her time between JVS and Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, has been instrumental in the creation of unique and effective programming for the millennial generation. Walled Lake Western High School graduat- ing senior Sam Bloch came in first place in Class A Forensics in Storytelling in the state for the Michigan Bloch Interscholastic Forensic Association. He performed Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. He is the first Forensics team member at Walled Lake Western to come in first place more than once in his high school career. Shezaf Nof is an Israeli-born sabra to an American Israeli mother and an Israeli father. A Walled Lake Western graduate, she decided to serve her country of origin and Nof has been there for a year and nine months. Nof has complet- ed two consecutive ulpans on kibbutzim before being drafted in December 2015. Upon completion of the army ulpan and boot camp, she was accepted into the IDF combat search-and-rescue home- land security unit, committing to three years of service.
